About Alain Mabanckou

Born in Congo-Brazzaville in 1966, Alain Mabanckou is a novelist, poet, journalist and academic. In 2015, he was professor of artistic creation at the prestigious Collège de France. He currently teaches literature and creative writing in the Department of French & Francophone Studies and African Studies Center at UCLA.

Known for his novels and non-fiction writing depicting the experience of contemporary Africa and the African diaspora in France, Alain Mabanckou is among the most recognized Franco African writers in France in contemporary literature.

In 2006, he won the Prix Renaudot, one of the highest distinctions in French literature, for his novel Mémoires de porc-épic (2006).
